I would be very suspicious of any organization that would permit me to be a member, but would like to know what (if any) organizations any of you belong to? Saxophone and music related, of course.

I'm a member of Local 174 of the American Federation of Musicians (the musician's union. I've been a member since 1966); the North American Saxophone Alliance (mostly classical players and saxophone professors); the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM, manufacturers and retailers of music products); and the National Association of Professional Band Instrument Repair Technicians (NAPBIRT, educational association for repair techs).

Does any organization certify technicians skills? I know that in many industries this is required.

My tech told me that NAPBIRT certifies the qualifications of all it's members.

Your tech is a liar.......NAPBIRT does not in any way check the qualifications of technicians......nobody has to take a bench test to join NAPIRT.

Does ANYBODY certify techs?
