Question For Steve (Guardala)
02/15/10 12:40 PM

Hey Steve ...

Some Guardala horns were stamped Gold Brass ... I can't find any spec's on gold brass .. is this material myth or Just Guardala BS .. ? I appreciate that the Guardala horns Are B&S Medusa stencils ... but where does the Gold Brass material come from and what is potentially the mix in the Alloy ...?

75% copper, 24% zinc, 1% other stuff........gold brass is ordinary brass with a fancy name......our horns are all made from rose brass: 85% copper, 14% zinc, 1% other stuff

Dean:
There's a HUGE amount of mythology about those horns. True, they play pretty well, but they were NOTHING but off the shelf B&S horns with different engraving. My source for this information is Gerhard Mienel, who is the owner of B&S. I also worked for the company that was the USA distributor (although after they stopped selling B&S and Guardala) and they said the same thing. I've seen many of them and owned a few. They are pretty good, but nothing special or out of the ordinary.

I've seen these horns selling pretty cheap recently, so I suppose they didn't prove to be such a hot long term investment

Not too sure about a bad bet for investment ... I still have an Alto & Tenor Black body silver plate keys and they have doubled the value I paid for them ... Saw a New Yorker Tenor recently went on Ebay for quite a bit ... have a look ? Someone must have really wanted this ... ??? and its not even cleaned up ! Tarnish all over the keys and pad cups!

The listing has been removed..........I never saw a solid silver one, and wonder if that is really true.....I don't know.

I will comment that, particularly in today's market, asking prices mean absolutely nothing. It's only what a willing buyer and willing seller can agree upon that has any relevance whatsoever.

Not removed as far as I see Steve, the listing has ended all right although the US$5,302.22
was not enough to remove the reserve placed on the sax .... Appreciate and agree with what your saying Steve, but this price kind of dismisses the so called "Worthless" sinario that people don't believe these sax's are still worth quite a bit .. ???

When I'm selling a horn, I ALWAYS ask for as much as I think I can possibly get....doesn't mean anybody will meet my price. I still see lots of crazy asking prices with no takers.
