I have just viewed Mouthpiece Refacing with Steve Goodson, or as it says, "Steve 'The Saxgourmet' Goodson's Mouthpiece Refacing Show."
It begins with the usual warning about copyright infringement delivered by "Low Bb, Vice President in charge of problem customers, collections..." (hahaha...) with his unforgetable basso profundo voice.
Though Steve never got around to demonstrating one of the tools on the table he did cover all the basics. He gives an excellent overview of the tools, materials, techniques and resources used in mouthpiece work, both the how and the why.
Something I thought especially well done on the video was closeups of the mouthpieces as he worked on them, getting good video of the table as it was flattened, siderail and tip work. These details were easy to see, and I know they are difficult to photograph. Well done!
Are there things he does not cover? Of course! But it would take many hours to do that. These are things best left for you to work out yourself. Some things you just have to learn by doing. Will you mess up some mouthpieces? Most assuredly. But then this is true of learning any new skill.
Watch the video, gather up your tools, join the Mouthpiece Work yahoo group, peruse the files and resources there, and jump in. Don't begin by carving up your favorite mouthpiece, but rather, get some old mouthpieces to work on. Flatten the table, adjust the facing curve, clean up the tip, and measure and measure again.
Steve, great video... a job well done!
